The Sydney Gynaecological Endoscopy Group (SGEG) is a group of gynaecologists based at St Vincent's Hospital, St Lukes Hospital (Potts Point), King George V Hospital (Newtown) and Liverpool Hospital, NSW, Australia.
Our interest is in utilising new technology to perform gynaecological procedures so that patients may be discharged from hospital within 1 to 2 days rather than staying in hospital for 5 to 7 days. This generally allows people to return to their normal activities within 1 to 2 weeks rather than the traditional 4 to 6. Other benefits of endoscopic surgery include less discomfort and disfigurement, decreased adhesion formation and potential cost savings. The term
ambulatory gynaecology has been coined to describe this revolution.
We have also been involved in training other gynaecologists in advanced laparoscopic surgery and run ongoing training workshops.
