Diaphragmatic Endometriosis
Cooper MJW, Russell P, Gallagher PJ.
Medical Journal of Australia 1999. Vol 171. Pp 142-143
This paper describes the unusual situation of a lady who had developed endometriosis of the diaphragm. She noted severe left shoulder tip pain initially with her periods which then progressed to be fairly constant despite multiple types of medication. Laparoscopy and excision of part of the diaphragm resulted in a rapid relief of the pain which she noted straight after the anaesthetic whilst still in the recovery room. The relief has persisted over 12 months and she is now pregnant.
The report exemplifies the significant symptoms that can be caused by unusual endometriotic deposits and the impressive results that can be achieved by aggressive excisional treatment.
